A Sailor’s Guide to Earth is Sturgill Simpson’s third studio album, released in April 2016. Though its critically and commercially successful predecessor Metamodern Sounds in Country Music had a somewhat cohesive theme, Sailor’s Guide is more thoroughly a concept album, an extended metaphor in which he frames life lessons and advice to his young son as a guide to navigating life’s storms and temptations.
