King of twangy guitar, Duane Eddy placed his stamp on the playing of electric guitar, and back in the early 1960s he earned himself a hit or two (on both sides of the pond) through his distinctive work.
Largely instrumental music with some harmony vocals from The Blossoms; a recording act in their own right and in-demand as backing vocalists but worked brilliantly. Among the hits you have “Dance With The Guitar Man” (a co-write with Lee Hazelwood) and “Boss Guitar” lead the way, backed admirably I hasten to add by covers of “High Noon”, “Moon River” and a bunch of tunes connecting with dance craze of the time ‘the twist’. Plus you have the likes of such infectious fun-loving dance fare as “Limbo Rock”.
Additional to featuring in their entirety three albums from 1962; Twistin’ ‘N’ Twangin’, Twangy Guitar Silky Strings, Dance With The Guitar Man the set also includes seven singles. “Deep In The Heart Of Texas” and TV western theme song “Ballad Of Paladin” coupled with “Saints And Sinners” and “The Wild Westerner”, another co-write with Hazelwood.
Adorned with the above noted harmony vocals, inspirational brass; that duel superbly with Eddy’s amazing guitar the listener is set to find this a lively, and infectious set of work. Eddy’s career didn’t stop here; he went on to record more albums, one Road Trip as recently as 2011, plus he’s still picking up work in the recording studio on sessions.
