Legionfest
Following the success of this year’s 5th Manchester Americana Festival, we’ve decided to follow it later this summer with Legionfest, on Saturday 13th August 2016. The venue as before, the Prestwich Legion club, which is already becoming well established as one of North Manchester’s leading live music venues. The Legion is at 225 Bury Old Road, Prestwich, Manchester M25 1JE, and is very close to Heaton Park metro station.
The lineup for Legionfest is a mixture of Americana, folk, powerpop and more. Admission is only £5 (pay on the door) for the whole day, so make the most of it and get there early! There are plenty of places nearby to grab a bite to eat during the day. Also – the venue will be doing food as well so you don’t have to leave the Festival if you don’t want to!

Programme for the day:
1pm – doors open
1.30- 2pm – Dave Jones

Bluesy Americana with a touch of Johnny Cash from Lankybone’s guitarist.

2.20-3pm – Colin Wakeford
Classic pop songwriter influenced by the likes of The Beatles and Crowded House.http://ift.tt/29v52zH

3.20-4pm – Peter Aldridge

Haunting folk songs with beautiful arrangements, such as the intensely moving “Red fox”.http://ift.tt/29BH8FP

4.20-5pm – Sugar Mama

Alt country duo – Paul Manina and Clare Green are the nearest thing to a Manc Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

5.20-6pm – Steve Chapman Smith

Steve made his name as a member of post-punkers and Peel favourites Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. These days he plays Springsteenesque Americana with gritty observations on British life, such as the brilliant “Broken bridge”. http://ift.tt/29v5zl4

6.20-7pm – Risa Hall
A native of Forest Hills, NYC, having grown up with The Ramones; now based locally in Whitefield. Her music is an intoxicating mix of pop, soul, jazz and country, and she has an excellent, brand new album to promote. http://ift.tt/1W3T0Qr

7.20-8pm – Garron Frith
Critically acclaimed local songwriter responsible for some heartbreakingly beautiful songs. As the Daily Express (no less!) writes, of his latest album “Away from the bright lights”: ‘ If someone of the calibre of Ryan Adams or Josh Ritter was delivering this, everyone would be gushing about songs like “Not the Man”, “The Remedy” and “Good Thing”’. His third album is due out any time now… http://ift.tt/1W3SZvR
8.20-9pm – The Good Intentions
Liverpool-based country band The Good Intentions have won a string of awards, including Best Americana Act of the Year 2011 in the British Country Music awards. In addition to acclaim for their albums “Poor boy” and “Someone else’s time”, they have also received national television coverage. Their recent release “Travelling companion” has been described by Maverick magazine as “Genuine, high class traditional country music, with the roots firmly attached”. http://ift.tt/13XvQnu
9.20-10pm – Picnic Area
The Stockport hillbillies have moved into more sophisticated territory with the epic feel of their latest highly acclaimed album “Classics”, dipping into country soul, powerpop and even dub. http://ift.tt/239x5sR

10.20-11pm – The Blazing Snowmen
